Sometimes it’s hard to exercise when you’re alone. Where’s the motivation and the emotional support? In the mirror?
As a result of my desire to have an exercise buddy, I decided to search for somebody I loved and cared for (so they wouldn’t make fun of my flab) to exercise along with me. But most of my friends and family members live so far away that finding an exercise buddy seemed impossible. One of my daughters said she would exercise with me, but life got in the way and we never found the time.
And then I came up with an idea for people who don’t want to leave their homes, but who want the camaraderie of exercising with a friend! What do I call this little exercise program? Skypercise!
What Skypercise entails is downloading Skype on your computer or laptop – if you don’t already have it – connecting with an exercise buddy and working out a routine – or not. Maybe you want to lift weights while she jogs in place. Maybe you want to ride your bike while he walks the treadmill. That’s the beauty of Skypercise – you have the companionship, you make your own commitment to exercise, and you can both act as each other’s personal trainers.
Skype is free to use and downloading it is simple. Once it’s set up, all you have to do is connect!
How can you Skypercise? Maybe you’ll both decide to do jumping jacks or run in place or lift weights. Set a time limit. Have water or iced green tea available. After 15 or 20 minutes, take a drink – a healthy drink, and sit down and talk as if you are both sitting at the same table. Then go at it again. Or not. Set a next time and stick to it.
Recently I met with my beloved sister/friend, Nancy, and she told me about the Kindle Fire she received as a gift. When I told her about how she could download Skype on her new toy, she readily agreed to Skypercise with me after the holidays!
After researching Skype, I discovered I can Skype with as many as 10 people at the same time! So if you want motivation to exercise, and you want to exercise with a friend, download Skype and Skypercise!
Want even more motivation? (Give us some time – we’re new!)
